Relationship between Weight Gain during Pregnancy and Nutritional Status of Pregnant Women with Low Birth Weight Events in Pauh Padang Health Center in 2019

ABSTRACT
Low birth weight (LBW) is one of the main contributors to infant mortality, which is 34.8%. In Pauh Health Center occurs increase of LBW within 2 years dan 1 years before has same number of LBW cases. In 2017, Pauh Health Center reported that there were 25 cases of LBW cases, while from January to August 2018 there were 14 cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the weight gain during pregnancy and nutritional status of pregnant women with the incidence of LBW in the Pauh Health Center in 2019.
This research is observational analytic type with case control design . This data was collected from 7 January - 23 February 2019 in the Pauh Health Center in Padang. Population in this study were the numbers of all mothers who gave birth which is 1240 peoples. The sampling technique in the control group was purposive sampling and in the case group was total sampling . Data were obtained from medical records and KIA’s book and analyzed by univariate and bivariate.
The results showed that there is 46.4% of mothers with less weight gain during pregnancy and 37.5% of mothers with less nutritional status (KEK) during pregnancy. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between weight gain during pregnancy and the incidence of LBW with p value 0.016 and OR 4.5 (95% CI: 1.45-13.882) and there was a relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women and the incidence of LBW with p value 0.027 and OR 4,231 (95% CI: 1,314-13,617).
The conclusion of this study is there is a relationship between the addition of maternal weight during pregnancy and the nutritional status of pregnant women with the incidence of LBW. Therefore, researchers expect health workers to improve counselling and community motivation about balanced nutritional status during pregnancy.
