ABSTRACT
Iron Deficiency Anemia is a result of iron deficiency for the formation of hemoglobin in the body. The incidence rate of anemia in young women is 57,1 %. Anemia can decrease ethusiasm for learning. Students in Sabbihisma Boarding School have dense activities so they are at risk of anemia and regular eating patterns. One of the therapy to increase hemoglobin levels is by consumption green bean extract or soy milk. The purpose of this research was to determine the difference of effect between green bean extract and soy milk to increase hemoglobin levels in female students at Sabbihisma Islamic Boarding School of Padang year 2019.
The type of research is a quasi experimental using two group pretest and posttest design. The research was conducted on Januari 10 th – January 29th 2019 at Sabbihisma Islamic Boarding School of Padang. The population is female students in junior high school level as many as 86 persons with sample 32 persons using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used is an observation sheet and a digital hemometer. Analysis of the data is used paired samples t test and mann whitney.
Results of the average of hemoglobin levels before being given green bean extract was 11,406 gr/dl and after being given green bean extract has increased to 13,050 gr/dl. The average of hemoglobin levels before being given soy milk was 11,200 gr/dl and after being given soy milk was 12,688 gr/dl. there were the effect of green bean extract to increase hemoglobin levels with p value of 0,001 and there were the effect of soy milk to increase hemoglobin levels with p value of 0,000. There wasn’t difference effect of green bean extract and soy milk to increased hemoglobin levels with a p value of 0,940 (p value > 0,05).
The conclusion was found that both of green bean extract and soy milk can increase hemoglobin levels in female students. It is hope this research can be an alternative in increasing hemoglobin levels in female students, and as a comparison to develop further research.
