Factors Associated With the Incidence of Malnutrition in Children Under Five in the Working Area of Taluk Sub Public Health Center in South Coastal District in 2019

ABSTRACT
Malnutrition is one of malnutrition in children under five who is characterized by decreased body weight. WHO data for 2017 shows that malnutrition affects 11% of children under five in the world. Data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2016, children with malnutrition of 3.4%, West Sumatra at 2.1% and South Coastal District at 2.12%. This study aims to look at the factors associated with the incidence of malnutrition in children under five in the working area of Taluk Sub Public Health Center in South Coastal District in 2019.
The type of this research is analytic with cross sectional design carried out in the Taluk Sub-District Health Center Working Area of South Coastal District in September 2018 - June 2019. The population of all mothers with children under five was 109 people, with a simple random sampling technique of 57 people. The technique of collecting data using a questionnaire. Then the data is processed manually and analyzed by frequency distribution and bivariate tables with chi-square statistical tests.
The results showed that toddlers experienced malnutrition as much as 21.2%. Mothers have a low level of knowledge of 55.8%. Mothers have a basic education level of 46.2%. Mothers have a low economy of 53.8%. Mothers have a high risk number of children as much as 40.4%. The relationship between the level of knowledge of mothers with the incidence of malnutrition in children under five (p = 0.014), the education level of mothers with the incidence of malnutrition in children under five (p = 0.026), the economic status of mothers with the incidence of malnutrition (p = 0.015) and the number of children with the incidence of malnutrition in infants (p = 0.019).
The results of the study concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge, education level, economic status and number of children in mothers with malnutrition, it is expected that midwives will increase the frequency of counseling or health education on balanced nutrition by using brochures or leaflets on toddler nutrition and Provision of Supplementary Foods (PMT) and providing vitamins / food supplements for toddlers during Posyandu activities.
