ABSTRACT
As a developing country, Indonesia still faces various health problems. One of them is nutritional problems. Malnutrition in infants can affect children's brain development. The prevalence of malnutrition in Pauh Kota Padang District in 2017 is 17%. One of the factors causing nutritional problems is infectious diseases. The prevalence of infectious diseases such as diarrhea in the Piai Tangah Village is 60%, and PHBS with the indicator of exclusive breastfeeding is the lowest, which is 34%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between PHBS infectious diseases, and to determine the relationship between infectious diseases and nutritional status of children in Piai Tangah village, Pauh sub-district, Padang City, 2018.
This research is analytical using the Cross Sectional Study design. The study was conducted in December 2018 in Piai Tangah Village, Pauh District, Padang City. Sampling was done by simple random sampling method with a total sample of 79 toddlers in which samples were taken randomly at Piai Tangah Village. The primary data from this study included the nutritional status of toddlers, age, infectious diseases, and PHBS collected by 4 students from trained nutrition departments. Secondary data data obtained from the Puskesmas and the Padang City Health Office include general location data and data on the number of infants. Data analysis was done by univariate and bivariate using computer programs.
The results showed that toddlers who were well nourished were 72.2% and toddlers who were malnourished were 27.8%. Toddlers who have infectious diseases are 54.4% with diarrhea prevalence of 7.6%, measles prevalence is 2.5%, and the prevalence of fever and flu is 51.9% and those who have never experienced infectious diseases are 45.6 %. Toddlers with PHBS are good at 79.7% and toddlers with PHBS are not good at 20.3%.
It is recommended for mothers who have toddlers to be able to maintain the cleanliness of the environment around the house and further improve and apply clean and healthy lifestyle to toddlers early on.
